ActiveLife

CHALLENGE

Brief: As the lead designer at FitSense, an insurtech startup, I spearheaded the product design of ActiveLife, a white-label app for insurers to attract and engage customers while helping customers live healthier and save on their insurance. The challenge was to create a user-friendly app that encourages and tracks physical activity, translating it into tangible insurance premium discounts. The design needed to motivate continuous engagement while ensuring a seamless integration with insurance processes.

My Role: As the lead product designer, I was responsible for the end-to-end design of the ActiveLife app, from conceptualization to final product.

  • Extensive user research to understand potential users' needs and preferences.

  • Developed the app's overall design strategy, focusing on user engagement and motivation and creating an intuitive UI/UX that made tracking activities and understanding insurance benefits straightforward.

  • Worked closely with development and insurance teams to ensure the app's features accurately tracked activity and seamlessly integrated with insurance discount mechanisms.

OUTCOME

Results: ActiveLife successfully launched in 2018, demonstrating a fun approach to integrating lifestyle choices with insurance benefits. The app has since been discontinued and merged into Zurich Livewell App following the acquisition of FitSense by Zurich Insurance Group.

Insights: This project gave me interesting insights into the insurtech sector, particularly in understanding how design and gamification can directly influence user behavior and engagement within insurance models.

Tools and Technologies: Utilized Sketch for UI & UX design, InVision for prototyping, Lottie for animations.
